Situated in South Asia., this land of spice contributes a massive 75% of the world’s spice production.

It is the seventh largest country by area, the second most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, due to overtake China by 2028.

Bounded by the the Himalayan mountain range in the North tapering down Indian Ocean in the South, the Arabian Sea lies to the South West, and the Bay of Bengal to the South East.

India's coastline measures 7,517 kilometres, comparable to Brazil. About 21.2% of the country's landmass is covered by forests.

The Indian climate is strongly influenced by the Himalayas and the Thar Desert, which drive the summer and winter monsoons. The Himalayas prevent cold Central Asian winds from blowing in, keeping the bulk of the Indian subcontinent warmer than most locations at similar latitudes.

The combination of low altitudes and climate make growing Robusta coffee more suitable than the higher quality Arabica.

Annual Coffee consumption in India is low, about 100g per person, most of the population drink tea. However, given its huge population, this translates to 2 million bags a year.

Almost all of India’s coffee producers are small growers, traceability to a single estate is difficult. We have managed to find some interesting single estates producing notable and interesting coffee.

Flavour characteristics tend to be rich, creamy and heavy with low acidity, the best coffee can have a hint of cardamom and clove spice.
